Types of Research Projects

Our service can undertake many types of research on behalf of our clients.

Family History Research

Our specialists can carry out a detailed and accurate search to trace the various pedigree lines of your family. The amount of detail you require is reflected in our highly competitive prices and can take various formats:

  • Paternal Line up to the early 19th Century with additional option of extended research beyond the 19th Century
  • Maternal Line up to the early 19th Century with additional option of extended research beyond the 19th Century
  • Both Paternal & Maternal Lines up to the early 19th Century with additional option of extended research beyond the 19th Century
  • Full Pedigree

We are also able to research a specific member of your family, perhaps one who has always been a bit mysterious or one who has done something notorious or remarkable. This can be some of the most interesting and rewarding research into the life and times of your ancestors so that you can get to know them a bit better.

Our team can also pick up the research on your ancestors where you may have left off or have run into difficulties.

Customised Research

Our service also includes a customised research facility which can involve any aspect of historical or archival research into a wide variety of subjects and topics anywhere in the UK.

People Research

Our team can research the lives of anyone from the past, whether you are related to them or not. This may be for a specific school or university project, a display, a presentation or as part of some general research into a person or group of people.

Business/Occupation/Trades Research

Often our clients are curious about a type of occupation or a factory where their ancestors worked. We can research the details of companies, businesses, trades and related subjects such as trade unions or guilds which may help you to understand a bit more about what it was like working in a mill or down a coal mine and what the employers were like. This research may be related to one of your ancestors but it may also be for an academic project, related to the history of a company that you work for or may have some interesting legal aspect which needs to be clarified.

Local History Research

The place where we live has a huge impact upon our lives and sometimes our ancestors travelled around more than you would expect. Our team can research the places where they lived whether it is a town, city, district or street. Other aspects of researching a locality may relate to the history of the area, local population details, social and economic information or simply to get more information about a place at a certain time in history such as during the air raids or when the local river flooded.

Building & House History Research

Buildings have a history all of their own. Whether it is a cottage with roses around the door, a lost family mansion, a factory or a public building they all have a story to tell. We can investigate the history of your house by looking at maps and other archival material to help your home tell you about who lived there before you, how it has been altered and who owned it. Other projects from our clients may relate to research into specific buildings for historical research, funding bids, conservation projects or information to support planning applications.

Clubs & Societies Research

There is a huge amount of undiscovered information about local or national guilds, societies, groups, clubs and meetings. Our team can research the history of the local amateur football club, scout group, camera club, Oddfellows Lodge, Freemason’s Lodge, Co-operative Society, Trade Union Branch, Church Guild or even the bell ringing society. You may have ancestors who were the leading light in the local amateur dramatics society or may be a member of a group who would like to know more about its past. We can research both locally and nationally to help you rediscover the past and leave something behind for future members.

General Historical Research

Some of our clients require a more general type of research. They may need information about a particular subject such as Methodism in the North West of England or it may be related to American WW2 air bases located in a particular county. Our researchers can look for information on all types of subjects whether it is for general interest, business or academic purposes. The same ability also applies to particular objects which could be a particular ship of the line which sailed out of Liverpool or to historical periods in a certain geographical area such as the industrialisation of Manchester. These research projects can be small scale to quickly answer a particular question or may be on a much larger scale and carried out over a wide geographical area.

Document Research

Genealogus offers a document research service. If our clients require or wish us to locate a specific document, we can travel to the location and do research on site. This could be speculative research or it could be to locate, transcribe or obtain copies of documents which are known to be in that location.
